My name is Michael Milton and I am an artist that paints mostly. Sometimes I build objects make temporary installations within the landscape.
I have interest in the shaped canvas and linear compositions rooted in post World War Two American Abstraction. With controled gestures following unpredictable decisions, I try to understand and know the ‘why’ of my decision and the ‘how’ in my action.
I work with layering decisions and gestures while at the same time make aesthetic adjustments for when an action should end and know that I am staying poetic with the statement I make. Decisions are spontaneous or deliberate, simultaneously. My intention is to map the meanderings of this conscious mind in a clear way and communicate it to people that look at the finished work.
The geometric play a grand role in the art I make. I choose to let go of the biological form and direct my mind to reveal itself and for my conscious self to recognize itself. It frees me up to be confident and trust my ability to use materials clearly. I believe acts are responsive gestures to previous acts and it is my conscious responsibility to judge my act, feel it and allow the growing of my actions to reach a conclusion I accept.
Another process is to use irregular geometrical forms for their progression, cycle or stability, set strict limits to the drawing of the plan, then paint between the lines in a controlled free manner.
